Food Labels communicate critical information about your product. Any custom printed food labels that are designed well can certainly increase the sale of your product, but an eye-catching custom label is not enough. There are many details which need to be considered that will determine your label’s success.
Principal Display Content
The principal display content should include the name of the product, its logo, and the net quantity. This element should be easily recognized and therefore it often occupies more space than other content on the label. This is important because if the customer wants to buy your product specifically, a large principal display is more likely to quickly catch their eye.
Mention the type of product it is – whether it’s cookies, sauce, spices, chocolate, dairy products or any other food type. Also include details such as vegetarian or non-vegetarian, organic or free range, etc. Any certifications from authorized organizations should also be mentioned on the label. Certification is important for many reasons, including establishing credibility with the consumer and earning their trust in your quality of your product.
The details with respect to the place of manufacture, the name of the manufacturer, and the manufacturer number must be available on the label. These details are usually found on the back of a product or the food label. Also, the date of manufacture and the best before date should be given. The barcode also needs to be visible and scan-able by a barcode reader.
Contents Inside the Product
Since it’s a food product, it is necessary to provide information about the ingredients, volume and nutrition. Include the net weight of these items and any other important facts. Valid, accurate and truthful information is necessary and it helps gain the consumer’s trust.
How to Use Details
Most food items do require information on how to use the product. A new consumer may not have knowledge about how to use your product, so you can assist the buyer by providing more information right on the label. Recipe suggestions are often used to add more value to a consumer considering your product over a competitor’s.
This is only some of the basic information needed on a food label. In part two of this article, you will get more tips about important elements to consider for your food label.
